Feb events, recipes, stories, new stores & more!

I did not go away this year to India for various reasons *sigh* and I sure am missing being back. However, it will be there for another time. I am still hoping to get to someplace warm .. you know how I am with the cold. Probably why I am in the tea business!

I wanted to share a little story that happened here in Vancouver. I take transit or walk everywhere (almost!), and was sitting at a bus stop after a grocery store demo. It was a pretty cold and windy day. The bus was very late and it was getting dark and cloudy. The lady seated next to me was eating some trail mix and offered me some! Without any hesitation, I promptly took out my tea carafes and gave her and others around me the Chai that was still hot! I even had extra sample cups. Conversations struck up among all those waiting. Mission accomplished.

Impromptu tea party at a bus stop in West Vancouver!

See I don't need to return to India to bring back cool stories :D Next time I meet you, let's exchange stories or invite a friend to tea and talk.

I post regularly on Facebook and Instagram. Do follow me if you like :D

With love and gratitude,
Trudy Ann aka Chai Walli (Tea Lady)

Yacon syrup

Yacon Syrup

What Exactly is Yacon Syrup?
This product is primarily used as a natural sweetener and is extracted from the Yacon plant.

Being diabetic, I am very careful about my sugar intake and am happy to say that with a keto diet and intermittent fasting, I rarely have to take insulin now! See details here.

I have just a limited supply of Yacon syrup that I can sell as long as the supply lasts.

A Cup of Masala Chai: A Journey to India and Beyond

Way back in 1988, masala chai stole my heart when my Aunty Pramila served me the perfect cup. Over the years and across the continents, my chai and spices have come a long way. Here's my story on how I began this wonderful chai journey.

Aaloo Matar

Years ago, 2011, the Britannia Community centre asked me if I would organize events for Diwali. I called upon my dear friend Mital Gorman and we put together a series of dazzling events.. from sari draping, diva painting, Bollywood dancing to samosa making. The samosa making workshop was so popular that we ended up with a second equally packed workshop.

Here is a recipe for the samosa filling that Mital and I put together. You can always eat this as is or fill it in a pie crust. Preferably homemade!

I was so fortunate to be interviewed by Sheryl MacKay. I had so much fun and I hope you enjoy the show.

I first met Sheryl at the Trout Lake farmers market when she stopped by my Chai tent to get some Masala chai.

This story is from October 29, 2017: Trudy Ann on CBC radio, North by North West (link), with host Sheryl MacKay, talking about her tea story.

The segment is on at 1:18
